Everyone goes through a period where life feels out of control and not balanced. It’s perfectly normal! But how can you achieve a balance during these hectic times?

Understanding what balance truly means is the first step towards creating a balanced lifestyle. Life balance doesn’t necessarily mean giving equal amounts of time or attention to each part of your life. That’s the big myth!

Life balance is about knowing when to give a little more effort, when it’s time to pull back and when to make an overhaul, so that everything can feel just right.

These five tips will help you strike a better balance in life:

Make time for you

Realize that  you are important and valuable. Taking care of your happiness (and sanity) is an essential part of creating a balanced life. Even if for just two hours each week, put everyone else’s needs aside and focus on you!  Do whatever helps you unwind and enter a mindset of total relaxation.

Strive for a healthy lifestyle

Both exercise and a conscious diet are necessary in order to remain healthy and happy. Set aside at least 30-minutes each day to exercise. Your workout can be anything under the sun, as long as it keeps you active.

If eating healthy is a challenge, avoid bringing unhealthy food into your home. You can’t be tempted if it isn’t around the house. Not only will it keep your heart healthy and your waistline under control, it’ll promote healthy eating habits in your children.

Leave work at the office

This is easier said than done,  especially since many people are working from home these days.  It can be hard to simply go into “home mode” from “work mode” when the two are in the same house.  In addition, we are constantly connected to work with emails and texts.  However, overworking yourself isn’t the answer.  It may be difficult and it may take a while, but when you push your chair away from your computer at the end of the day, let that be a signal to you that you are leaving behind whatever is left at work.  It will be there on Monday for you to finish and the world will not end.

Make time for love

Rekindle the romance.  Spend quality, uninterrupted time with your spouse/partner.  Simply watching TV together isn’t enough.  Find an activity that you can do together to re-connect without any distractions.

Socialize

Hanging out with friends allows you to unwind and have a few laughs. In this new world, zoom calls have become the norm and are important to keep the connection with friends and family. Make it a point to “meet up” with friends virtually at least once each month until you can physically see each other again.

Living a life that is not balanced is one of the leading causes of stress for many people. The inability to cope with stress can cause numerous health problems, such as weight gain, migraines, heart complications and more. Fortunately, you can be the exception. You can ward off health problems by nipping stress in the bud.

Practice these strategies each day and, one day soon, you’ll feel the harmony of a balanced life.

Until next time!
