In this blog post, I outlined why supplementation benefits your health and some of the supplements I take. You can find it here!

I am big believer in a whole foods approach to health and wellness.  I also believe supplementation plays an important role in our daily healthcare routine, just like exercise and drinking water, especially for those of us in midlife and beyond.

As much as we don’t want to think about it, our bodies are aging and may not absorb or process the vitamins and minerals from food like it did before. In addition, the foods we eat may not provide the required nutrients that we need to keep us healthy.  Good supplementation fills this gap.

So, I thought I would provide product details on the supplements that I take and why I take what I take.

Of course, exercise caution when taking supplements, especially if you are on prescription medication.  Check with your doctor or healthcare provider prior to taking any supplements!

USANA’s CellSentials

USANA’s CellSentials is my go-to multivitamin. Let’s face it, we don’t always get the nutrients we need from the food we eat. This could be by lifestyle, such as not having a healthy diet. Or it could be due to the soil which grows our food being deficient. I still encourage my clients to focus on fruits and vegetables (preferably organic), but a good multi-vitamin fills in the nutritional gap that our modern day food supply lacks.

VITAMIN C

Vitamin C or ascorbic acid is a powerhouse nutrient!  It may deserve its own blog post!  As an antioxidant, vitamin C helps reverse free radical damage, which in turn enables our immune cells to better fight off illness.  In addition, with the presence of vitamin C, other cells in our body are better able to defend themselves in the event of an attack from a foreign invader.

Vitamin C also helps with the absorption of iron, which is essential for carrying oxygen and nutrients to cells.

Proflavinol C100 and Proflavanol C200 contain grapeseed extract, making this critical antioxidant highly bioavailable to your body. In other words, it helps your body absorb Vitamin C more readily.

FISH OIL

Supplementing with fish oil has been part of my wellness journey for many years. Brain health, bone and joint health, heart health … fish oil is important! USANA’S BiOmega plays an important role in the the critical health processes for my body.

JOINT SUPPORT

I bet you are an active person, right? There are days when my knees feel like the knees of a 90 year old! Having said that, it is important that we stay in the best shape possible, right? USANA’s Procosa helps me maintain healthy cartilage and optimal joint health, keeping me moving and grooving!

CONCLUSION

For me, these are the basics and I throw in something extra here and there depending on what my body needs at that particular time. My approach to supplementation is that it is a perfect compliment to a holistic life.

Supplementation is a personal journey, and you should do your homework.  As I said, if you have any questions, I am here to help!  Don’t hesitate to reach out!
